A new way to wear a vintage kimono. This set is my own styling proposal, not the traditional way to wear a kimono. The pieces are genuine vintage; the way of wearing them is new.

Genuine vintage Japanese kimono, paired with a vintage silk obijime (帯締め) cord.

Both pieces are one-of-a-kind vintage, in very good condition for their age. I carefully handpicked and paired them: a navy silk tsumugi and a white/gold silk cord.

[Styling]
Traditionally, a kimono is worn closed and tied with an obi sash. Here I wear it open, as a long coat (or a robe), over a simple modern outfit – unisex, casual wear.
The obijime was originally a cord for securing the obi. In this set it has a new purpose, two ways:
- as a belt, tied at the waist over the open kimono
- as a long lariat necklace, draped around the neck
There are no rules here – please wear it in the way you like.
*The jumpsuit, turtleneck and shoes in the photos are not included.

[Set includes]

1 vintage tsumugi kimono

1 vintage silk obijime cord

[Cleaning & shipping]

*The kimono will be sent for professional kimono cleaning after purchase. Please allow about 10 business days from order to shipment.

*The cord has not been cleaned. Like new.

**Kimonos can be broadly divided into two fabric types.

They are "yarn-dyed kimonos" = "ORI" and "post-dyed kimonos" = "SOME".

Yarn-dyed fabrics "ORI" are fabrics that are dyed and woven while the threads are still in the yarn.

Typical examples are "tsumugi", "omeshi", and "cotton kasuri".

Tsumugi is especially popular among modern Japanese people, and many fabrics have simple designs. Post-dyed kimonos "SOME" refers to kimono woven with white threads without dyeing, to which "komon dyeing," "Bingata dyeing," "Yuzen dyeing," and other processes are applied. I feel that the kimono that people overseas imagine is like a "SOME" kimono.

This fabric is "tsumugi."
