The Extra Card /
The female tengu card, painted by Kiji-Maru
English

The female tengu is 恋恋's oni-fuda — the wild card.

An oni-fuda stands in for other cards, much like a joker. Some regional hanafuda decks of the past came with a card like this.

In 恋恋, she plays like this:

  • Played from your hand or turned up from the deck, she matches any card on the field.
  • On the field, she can be taken with any card.
  • Once captured, she counts as one plain (kasu) card.

Leave her out, and you're playing standard koi-koi.

Other Games /

Koi-koi is only one of many ways to play hanafuda. Regions once had their own cards and their own rules, and each place handed down its own way of playing.
